Shopify Product Page Audit Checklist: 20 Things to Check
Practical reading with ideas you can apply to product pages, landing pages, and funnels.
Why Shopify Product Pages Need Their Own Checklist
A Shopify product page has specific, recurring conversion factors that generic landing page advice doesn't cover: variant selection, shipping/returns visibility, review placement, and mobile add-to-cart behavior. This checklist is scoped specifically to those factors — pair it with the broader landing page audit checklist for message match and CTA basics that apply to any page.
Product Value & Imagery (5 checks)
- Does the primary product image clearly show the product in use, not just an isolated studio shot?
- Are there enough images/angles to answer the questions a shopper would ask if they were holding the product in-store?
- Does the product title include the specific details a shopper actually searches for (size, material, model), not just a brand name?
- Is the value proposition specific to this product, not a generic template description reused across the catalog?
- Do product videos (if present) load fast and autoplay muted, rather than requiring a click that most visitors won't make?
Variant Selection & Availability (4 checks)
- Are variant options (size, color) visually clear, not a confusing dropdown with unclear labels?
- Does the page show real-time stock/availability per variant, so a shopper doesn't select an option only to find it's out of stock at checkout?
- If a variant is out of stock, is there a clear alternative (notify me, similar product) instead of a dead end?
- Does selecting a variant update the product image if the variants look visually different (e.g., color)?
Trust & Reassurance (5 checks)
- Are reviews visible near the top of the page, not buried below a long description?
- Is shipping cost and estimated delivery time visible before checkout, not a surprise at the final step?
- Is the return policy easy to find and specific (not just "see our policy" with no summary)?
- Are security/payment badges visible near the add-to-cart button, where purchase anxiety is highest?
- If there's a "only X left in stock" or similar urgency element, is it real inventory data, not a fixed decorative number?
Mobile & Add-to-Cart (4 checks)
- Is the add-to-cart button visible without excessive scrolling on mobile, ideally via a sticky bar?
- Are variant selectors large enough to tap accurately on mobile?
- Does adding to cart give clear confirmation (not just a silent count change easy to miss)?
- Is the path from product page to cart to checkout free of unnecessary extra steps on mobile specifically?
Cross-Sell & Merchandising (2 checks)
- Are related/complementary product suggestions relevant to this specific product, not a generic "you might also like" pulling random catalog items?
- Do upsell/bundle offers (if present) appear after the primary purchase decision is clear, not competing with the main CTA for attention?
Prioritizing the Fixes
Trust and mobile add-to-cart issues tend to have the most direct impact on completed purchases — fix those first if you're short on time. Merchandising and cross-sell improvements matter more for average order value than for whether the primary purchase happens at all, so they're usually second priority unless the primary conversion path is already solid.
